art needs people to exist

if a painting hangs on the wall but nobody sees it, is it really art?
if a poem is read aloud but nobody reacts, did it really exist at all?

someone sent me a message regarding yesterday's reading:
"I was happy to see real poetry and not some wanker talking about the trees and the sky."

my sentiments precisely. poetry should be REAL. and it's only real if it touches people in some way.

note to self: the next time i'm inspired by a reading or any piece of art, i must tell the artist. spreading positive vibes is the best way to support the artistic community.

painting & writing, writing & painting...

i switch back and forth between the two all the time, but with the Word on the Street performance coming up in about a week, i'll be focussing on crafting the pefect spoken word / poetry set.

then i'll likely paint for two weeks straight.

i really do need to incorporate more words into my paintings. it's time for yet another series of work.

little things

yesterday i slapped a basecoat of blue on three small canvasses, without any idea where i'm going with them.
i had about ten minutes, and hadn't painted anything in a week, so that's all i could do.

i think i'm going to try a black base, with silver, electric blue and acid green doodles on top.

i really need to stock up on smaller "gift" sized paintings.
